As powerful as the internet is, many of us find that we need a
good way to control passwords in order to take advantage of
internet power. Banks, job sites, investment web sites,
and many others simply require that we can not only find them
(their web site "url") but that we also remember our correct
user name and password before they will give us entrance to
their site. Making things even more difficult, some web
sites may not allow us to select our own password or perhaps
even the user name. This leads to much much information
for us to track, that we have to get perfectly right each time.
That is not easy.
Membank software is made to
handle this application and many more applications similar to
it. Each membank file (you can have multiple files) for
example can store information for up to 160 web sites - that
include the web site url (internet location), user name and
password. Moreover, it uses the windows computer clipboard
to send the stored information, such that it can be re-used
without retyping any of it. Let me give an
example of usage. Note the image of the computer screen
lower and on the right of this web site. The information
showing on the top is the information we may need for a web
site. It contains the web site url, the user name and the
password. All of this information can be stored in one of
160 files below. Those files show up as gray buttons.
Note that a gray button on the upper left part of the bottom
screen area is in bold print and has the title "My Bank".
That was the file clicked for memory recall and usage by us.
To use this information, left mouse click on "www url" and the
url information will be sent to the windows computer clipboard.
Now, open your browser and ensure that your mouse cursor is
inside the "address (url)" window of your browser and then use
your keyboard keys "shift" and "insert" at the same time to
"paste" the website information into the browser. If you
do this, then the website location is now in your browser
without retyping it and you can freely go to that website,
likely by hitting the enter key while within that same window.
When you get to the site, left mouse click on membank's "user
name". Then put your mouse cursor into the are on your web
site browser that asks for user name and again use "shift" and
"insert" keys to transfer that information. Follow the
same process to transfer the password. When you have done
this, note that you did not have to memorize any of that - not
the web site address, not the user name and not the password,
and you did not have to retype any of it. How to record
the information in the first place is shown below.
However, first we want to talk about even more usages of this
memory bank program.
More usages of Membank memory bank program
simple text wording at your fingertips with no memorizing or
retyping needed We call this time, the
"information age". It must be, since we continually have
more and more information to track. Below are some
examples:
-
Remembering web site urls, and our password
names and our passwords for banks, investments, information
sites, more
-
Our own personal information for filling out
forms - choosing the answer we wish as we go
-
Signatures that give different amounts of
our personal information based on the person we are
responding to
-
Short form letters or resumes for job
hunting, or web site management, or small business needs
-
SEO - website information for tracking urls,
page descriptions and page keywords for advertising
-
Software serial numbers in case we need to
reload software cd's into our computers
-
Filling in bank information in "Quicken" or
a similar bank program using stored expense categories and
stored common names that we send checks to so retyping will
not be needed each time
-
Current email, name phone and address of
people you know
-
And just about any information that you want
at your fingertips - ready for use without retyping
We use this software constantly - and use it for
multiple files via its "load" and "save" capability
|
Membank Database Storage Note
first the lower portion of the screen - and note that there are 160 gray
buttons (arranged in groups of five) that act like 160 file drawers.
Click any one of these, and it will send information to the top - three
pieces of information for each file drawer. Note that at
the top the information is readable. For multi-line information,
drop-down readability can be done quickly by clicking the downward "v"
in front of the line. Click it again to close. Send any of the
three lines to the clipboard for usage without retyping by clicking its
leftmost button. |

the screen is of course much larger and more readable
in real usage |
Clipboard Usage
We have said that re-typing is mostly
unnecessary for most windows programs. As you hit the top
buttons on the left to send the information to the clipboard,
then use your mouse to find the location in another windows
program where you wish to transfer the information. Ensure that
you see the mouse cursor in that new area. Then press
"shift" and "insert" together to past the information in its new
location without retyping it. Many (if not most) windows
programs will accept this type of data transfer with no
retyping.
Recording Information
How complicated is it to record information into
the 160 gray data boxes below? It is quite easy and just
the reverse of the process we just did. While the
information is at the top (or simply hit reset while the Play
button says "Play" and use a blank area) - simply write
over it with any changes or new information that you wish.
Multi-line information is allowed. When ready to record,
click the "Play" button and change it to "Record". Now you
can record the information below. Click the below button
that you wish this revised information stored in. Remember
to save the whole file when done. It will probably ask you
at the end of the session.
Some Features:
-
540 data items per file - arranged in groups
of 3 per 160 gray button storage. And each of five
gray buttons is arranged in a group of five, and you can
also write a title above those five storage areas.
-
Multiple Files can be used using "load' and
"save" files using different names for each. Your most
often used file should be called "membank.txt" and if kept
in the same file as your program, will be loaded at program
start.
-
Organizing - you can use automatic
organizing by alphabet, or by changing the status of the
"move" button - move buttons around the storage location, or
move "areas" around - which are groups of five buttons.
You can even store "button" and "Area" information on the
clipboard for loading into a different membank file.
-
Convenience and Speed: You can set up
an option that will automatically send the top information
of the the three items for each of the buttons directly to
the clipboard, to save a button press - if you leave the
most used information at the top of the three items for each
button storage.
Simply the best way we have seen to store often
used information - and then use the computer clipboard instead
of retyping the same old information time and gain.
