Some CD writers and other applications will not accept long file names.
Yet some email programs and others programs may write long names that are beyond
the capability of CDs and some other transfer software.
One of the options with filemod software for windows is the
ability to shorten file names - and it can do so in bulk for a whole directory,
or even nested file directories.
Below is an example of a shortened file name:
The original name of this file was set to be:
"this
is a file name that is way too long that we wish to shorten to a shorter
length.txt"
Using filemod and setting the
length for the main name to be 50 characters long, the following name resulted:
"this
is a file name that is way too long that w~19.txt"
