OTHER SECOND LIFE (NON MESH) NOTED ISSUES AND
Prolog: We are not trying here to criticize Second
Life. We are amazed that things work as well as they do. But often when
technology is pushed, some things are fixed quicker than others. And
perhaps some things may not have a fix at all. We will also show
solutions or partial solutions where we know of them.
PRIMS REZ SLOWLY
Yes. And sometimes need help. We have found some
sculptured prims that if they have some complexity, they can rez faster
by left clicking them. Try that and see if it works on the ones that
bother you. Yes, sculptured prims are complex, but do add much to Second
WEARING SOMETHING NEW MAKES SOMETHING GO AWAY
early Second Life, only one item was allowed at each body attach point.
And if you right click something and choose "wear" it will only allow
one item there. So if something is already there, it will make that item
go away but put your new item in its place. How to get around this? When
adding a second item at an attach point use "add" instead of "wear." The
"add" option under right click allows multiple items at an attach point.
So you can have your cake and eat it too. Or in this case, you can have
your mesh breasts that might attach at the chest attach point and also
your necklace that might wish to also attach at the chest attach point.
MULTIPLE SEMI TRANPARENCIES DO NOT WORK WELL TOGETHER
not. We know of no fix other than avoiding it. The classical problem is
a dance hall that uses semi transparent walls or floor. Then ladies
dancing there may have semi transparency in their gowns for realism. And
then the ladies gowns disappear over the dance floor or against the
walls. Yes. Common. We suggest just avoiding this if possible. In our
own residences we used to love having windows that can see out. But that
involves semi transparencies and then some ladies clothes disappeared.
We now sadly keep to totally opaque walls and floors to give the ladies
the options of what they wish to wear.
SIZE CHANGERS SHOW HOLES
BETWEEN ITEMS! - do they?
Assuming that the designer got their math
right, there should be no holes between prims when you enlarge an
object. We have found that when the designers do get the math right,
that there can still be a temporary SL drawing problem. By that I mean
that if you look away with your camera and then look back, it might be
fixed. Or if you left click it, it might be fixed. Right after moving
things out and making them larger, the first drawing of it by SL might
not be accurate. The best answer is to look away and look back and you
might find that SL has already fixed it.
FLOATING TEXT AND
PROPERTY WARNING SIGNS SHOW THROUGH WALLS
And yes, both can be very
annoying. The good news, in my opinion, is that these items were more in
heavy usage in the early days of SL and not as much today. Of course,
that can mean little if someone's property warning signs or floating
text shows in your living room. The only known solution we have is to
keep a distance away from neighbors using these items ... if you have
enough property to do so.
Hope some of this helps.
